LED-Powered Protective Equipment: The Future of Safe Breathing

Presenter: Dr. Karl G. Linden, Principal Scientist, Photobiology, XCMR

Dr. Linden’s presentation featured XCMR’s Symmetrical Flow Decontamination™ (SFD) mask, a groundbreaking UV-C LED-embedded device designed to protect against airborne pathogens. The SFD mask prototype, developed with contributions from XCMR team members, uses dual chambers with UV-C LEDs to continuously inactivate microbes during both inhalation and exhalation, providing over 95% inactivation of viruses and bacteria. The mask also incorporates reflective materials and a microprocessor to balance energy efficiency and respiratory function.
