Infectious Disease Expert Dr. Richard Martinello Joins XCMR Advisory Board

XCMR welcomes renowned infectious disease specialist Dr. Richard Martinello to its advisory board as chief medical advisor.

Dr. Martinello’s extensive experience in infection prevention and control, antimicrobial stewardship, and healthcare epidemiology will be instrumental in guiding XCMR’s research and development efforts.

Dr. Martinello’s leadership and expertise will be crucial in developing solutions to combat infectious diseases and promote more sustainable infection control practices.

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Richard Martinello, a renowned infectious disease specialist, has joined our advisory board as chief medical advisor. Dr. Martinello’s extensive experience and expertise will be invaluable as we continue to develop innovative solutions to combat infectious diseases.

A leader in infection prevention and control

Dr. Martinello, a Professor of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the Yale School of Medicine, is board certified in adult and pediatric infectious diseases and completed his residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at the Indiana University School of Medicine, with further training in adult and pediatric infectious diseases and healthcare epidemiology at Yale. He is a recognized authority in the field, with a focus on healthcare epidemiology, antimicrobial stewardship, and the prevention of healthcare-associated infections. His research interests include the epidemiology and prevention of healthcare-associated infections, particularly those caused by multidrug-resistant organisms. Further, he is also passionate about improving the appropriate use of antimicrobials and developing innovative strategies to combat infectious diseases.   

Currently, Dr. Martinello serves as the Senior Physician Director of Infection Prevention for Yale New Haven Hospital and the Yale New Haven Health System. Prior to this, he held the position of Chief Consultant for Clinical Public Health for the Department of Veterans Affairs. In these leadership roles, he has spearheaded teams dedicated to developing programs, policies, and processes aimed at preventing healthcare-associated infections, optimizing care for individuals with chronic viral infections, and enhancing the overall safety and quality of patient care. Additionally, Dr. Martinello leads an active research program and receives funding from the CDC for his work focused on improving infection prevention and control.
