Dr. Karl G. Linden

Principal Scientist, Photobiology

Karl G. Linden, Ph.D., Principal Scientist, Photobiology at XCMR and Professor of Environmental Engineering and the Mortenson Professor in Sustainable Development at the University of Colorado Boulder, USA, has over 25 years of experience investigating innovative ultraviolet light-based systems for disinfection of pathogens and degradation of chemical contaminants.

He has guided more than $40M USD in research and authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications. He served as 2013-2015 President of the International Ultraviolet Association (IUVA), received the 2013 Pioneer Award in Disinfection and Public Health from the Water Environment Federation and was WateReuse Association’s 2014 WateReuse Person of the Year.

Dr. Linden has received multiple awards: 2019 AEESP Walter J Weber Jr. Frontier in Research Award, 2019 Water Research Foundation Dr. Pankaj Parekh Research Innovation Award, 2020 Borchardt-Glysson Water Treatment Innovation Prize, and recently named the 2020 NWRI Clarke Prize Laureate.

In 2019-2020 he served as President of the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors (AEESP).

Dr. Linden actively advises the World Health Organization as a member of the WHO Water Quality Technical Advisory Group and is a consultant to leading engineering firms and UV manufacturers and innovators.

He has a BS from Cornell University in Agricultural and Biological Engineering and an MS and PhD from University of California at Davis in Civil and Environmental Engineering.
